Wonder of the world

My dear hubby and I made a visit to one of the electronic retailers. After a round of window shopping,we went ahead to our favorite department, the TV section. We “wow”ed every now and then watching the wonders of the world being shown as a moving picture. The views of the Taj Mahal, the Colosseum of Rome,etc..were a pleasant retreat for the eyes. Srini argued that these are not the real wonders of the world. This led to an interesting conversation and I actually learnt something too.
We returned home whilst discussing about the various wonders of the world both of us thought were. This was my list.(I believe this would be the list by many people )
The Taj Mahal
The hanging gardens of Babylon
The Great Wall of china
The leaning tower of Pisa
The pyramids of Egypt
The Empire State Building
The Eiffel Tower

I argued saying that these were the ones we have read in childhood and also shown in movies as the great wonders (remember the “jeans” song Adhisayam
Thanks to the technology, now we have the world(or rather wonders of the world) on our fingertips.
Here is what I learnt now.
1.The wonders of the world were 7 as the number 7 was considered as plenty and perfect as per Greek mythology.
2. They were named as the seven wonders years before even the monuments in my list(above) were built.
3. Only one among the original seven wonders exists today.i.e. The pyramids of Egypt.
4. The classic seven wonders were:

Great Pyramid of Giza
Hanging Gardens of Babylon
Statue of Zeus at Olympia
Temple of Artemis at Ephesus
Mausoleum at Halicarnassus
Colossus of Rhodes
Lighthouse of Alexandria

Were these the real wonders? No, according to me. Nothing is as wonderful as a place with peace and tranquility. A place which is devoid of poverty and unemployment. A place where there is no rape. A place where everyone is considered equal. A place with no reservations for caste or creed.

When such a paradise is created, that would be the most wonderful wonder which cannot be erased forever in the pages of history.
